What I’m Working Toward in Colorado District 19

People always ask me “how”—

I didn’t pick these questions up in some meetings. They come straight from people I’ve run into—school drop-offs, grocery aisles, waiting for coffee. This is what matters around here. I live it, and I hear it all the time.

One Neighbor’s Story

“I met a retired teacher here in Erie who’s living on a fixed income. He told me that with property taxes going up, he’s being priced out, and he may not be able to stay in the town where he and his wife built a lifetime of memories. After decades of teaching and serving our community, he’s now facing the possibility of being forced to leave Erie, not because he wants to, but because he can’t afford to stay.”

I came across a small business owner who told me they’re struggling to hire and keep employees—not because people don’t want to work, but because workers can’t afford to live anywhere near their jobs. Employees are commuting from four cities away just to make it to work, and that distance makes every shift harder to cover and every job harder to keep. When workers can’t live where they work, it doesn’t just hurt families—it hurts local businesses and the entire local economy.

A Salon hair stylist shared something that hit me hard: childcare costs have gotten so expensive that getting to work is becoming a struggle. One parent is being forced to stay home, and without two incomes, it’s hard for the family to keep food on the table and pay rent. That’s the reality too many working families in HD19 are living right now—doing everything right, and still falling behind.

One Neighbor’s Story

I also remember how I knocked on doors in Erie that night, which was cold, and my fingers were numb. I encountered a mother whose child had a dream to be part of the school band, but they were unable to buy the instrument. She laughed and asked her whether it would be better to live somewhere else. That hit me. It is one of those that keep on fighting to secure increased funding. Each child is supposed to have an equal opportunity, not only those whose families can afford it.

Education for All

You know, there’s nothing like seeing a shy kid light up when a teacher believes in them. I want every classroom in Colorado District 19 to have the basics—good books, working tech, and teachers who stick around because they feel supported. It shouldn’t depend on your zip code or luck.

Affordable Housing

It stings to watch families get priced out of places they’ve called home for years. I’ve met folks holding two jobs just to pay rent, and still worried about next month. Affordable housing in Colorado District 19 means working for fair rents, zoning that helps neighbors—not just developers—and real chances for first-time buyers to stay close to their roots.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Some days, I think about how many different backgrounds, languages, and traditions you can hear just standing in line at a local shop here. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Colorado District 19 is not about paperwork—it’s about giving neighbors a fair shot, respecting every story, and making sure people see themselves reflected, whether it’s on boards or in classrooms.

Focus Areas

Community Involvement

You can’t fix much alone. That’s something I picked up at neighborhood cleanups or just chatting over fences. Community involvement in Colorado District 19 is really about rolling up sleeves—sharing worries, small victories, and new ideas. When people actually talk and work together, it’s surprising how quickly something broken gets fixed. That’s the difference, right there.

Civic Engagement

Democracy’s not just a word from textbooks. It’s about actually showing up—at the polls, at council meetings, in the day-to-day. Civic engagement in Colorado District 19 means keeping doors open, questions welcomed, and making sure everyone has a say, not just the loudest voices.

Immigration Protections

I came here years ago, suitcase in hand, heart pounding. Starting over is tough—I remember. Families deserve to feel safe and respected. Immigration protections in Colorado District 19 mean keeping loved ones together, building trust in our neighborhoods, and letting folks contribute without living in fear.

Questions People Often Ask About Me

Honestly? I’ve been in your shoes—struggling with rent, navigating schools, learning the ropes as an immigrant. I’ll bring lived experience, not just a title, to every decision.
I’ll fight for smart zoning, fair rents, and better options for first-time buyers. We need low income housing Colorado programs that keep neighbors together, not push them out.
Mental health isn’t just policy to me—I’ve seen what happens when help isn’t there. I want clinics in schools, fair insurance, and support that meets folks where they are.
I want to see more solar on rooftops, local training for green jobs, and help for small businesses to cut energy costs. Colorado clean energy should mean jobs and clean air.
It means your child gets what they need, whether that’s better books, tutors, or simply a safe place to learn. No one left out—period.

From Listening to Doing

These priorities come from real talks—in parks, schools, driveways, and coffee shops. Not slogans. Not press releases. Just what I hear, and what I promise to work for. If you care about these, too, let’s move Colorado District 19 forward together.
